About Us
Medical simulation uses lifelike patient manikins and high fidelity training environments linked to audio-visual recording facilities, but STeLI also promotes the use of low fidelity, part task trainers, e-learning and the use of actors as simulated patients.
Audio-visual technology allows complex individual and team performances to be captured, linked to behavioural feedback and debriefed allowing staff to reflect upon their activity and develop deeper insights thus improving their clinical practice.
Simulation allows the opportunity to experience rare or serious events in a patient safe environment. Repetitive rehearsal and reflection promotes clinical excellence - practice really does make perfect.
Launched in 2008, STeLI has already:
- Provided simulation-based and technology-enhanced resources to all 32 London Acute Hospital Trusts
- Supported educational developments in community-based settings
- Developed a specialist simulation Training Faculty
- Developed a Research & Development strategy to consolidate the theoretical and educational frameworks underpinning simulation-based training
- Raised the profile of multi-professional patient-safety and human factors training within Healthcare across London
- Supported Postgraduate Schools in developing ‘Excellence in Education’ plans for curriculum enrichment and innovation
