The questions here are both evaluative and directive, enabling Mel to gauge the level of understanding and to inform where there appear to be gaps in the knowledge or where some revisiting is necessary.
The outcome of the questions enables her to be more instructional rather than facilitative, but this is necessary in this instance. However, she is fortunate in that she is working with a group that is able to switch between ‘learner’ and clinician: they are happy to both receive and give information as the roles they play out change.
