Joint simulation facility at Royal Brompton and Royal Marsden opens
A new Clinical Skills and Simulation Centre has opened as a joint venture by the Royal Brompton and Royal Marsden Hospitals. Further supporting London Deanery's drive to enable simulation-based training for London healthcare trainees, the facility's resources were partially supported by the Simulation and Technology-enhanced Learning Initiative (STeLI).
The centre will allow trainees in various specialities, including Anaesthesia and Core Medical, to practice rare and critical scenarios in a patient-safe environment. The centre also allows the teaching of procedural skills such as chest drain and central line insertion.
Dr Ian Curran, Dean for Educational Excellence Head of Innovation and Clinical Lead for STeLI at London Deanery said: "This is a fantastic new facility and I'm delighted to see collaborative working between hospitals that enables high quality training opportunities to be made available to more London trainees."
Professor Margaret Hodson, Director of Medical Education at Royal Brompton & Harefield NHS Foundation Trust, said the centre "is designed for all health professionals with an interest in simulation and how it can be used in the healthcare arena to enrich learning, enhance individual and team performance, and improve patient safety."
